Dispelling Myths about Credit Unions1/30/2018

There are also over 110 million credit union members across the U.S., nearly one-third of U.S. citizens. Yet despite these numbers, there are still some misconceptions about belonging to a credit union – for members and non-members alike. Eagle wants to dispel those myths and shed some light on the CU difference.

Here’s what you need to know:

1. You’re eligible.

The biggest difference between banks and credit unions is that a credit union serves a specific group of people or community, but the guidelines are much broader than most people realize. For example, if you live, work, worship or go to school in Orange County, you’re eligible to become an Eagle Community Credit Union member.

2. Credit Unions are not just for people in need.

Almost anyone can join, especially under a community charter, which Eagle Community Credit Union has. Members do not necessarily have to be in need of financial, medical or professional support. Credit unions are full service financial institutions offering a broad range of products and services to meet everyone’s needs.

3. Credit Union members have free access at over 30,000 ATMs nationwide.

Because CUs are cooperative that means they work together to provide a network of services available to you at no additional cost. That means you can use almost all other Credit Union CO-OP ATMs and branches without a fee! Visit www.eaglecu.org to search for them in your area.

4. Credit Unions are as secure as traditional banks.

In fact, credit unions are insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) which offers similar coverage as traditional banks.

Eagle Community Credit Union is a Member-Owned, not-for-profit financial cooperative, otherwise known as a credit union. Founded in 1937 as Orange County Postal Credit Union, Eagle Community Credit Union is now a community credit union. If you’re looking for a financial institution that provides personalized service, values quality over quantity, knows you by name, asks for your input, provides direct access to the CEO, and still finds ways to bring value to your membership and the community – you’ve found it with Eagle.

Joining is easy.
